April 2018 - Gushu Sheng (Raw) Puer from Baiyingshan, Yunnan
This batch of Benshan varietal was produced from a group of old trees that were cut down about 10-15 years ago when puer was not as valuable as it is today. The old roots remain intact and stunted branches have since regrown. If the trees hadn't been cut, perhaps they would have been used for single tree productions.
Despite only being a year old, the change in aroma and flavor is quite noticeable when compared to the 2019 harvest. Notes of dried apricot is quite apparent in the dry leaf. The broth is smooth and coats the mouth with a unique sweetness, eliciting salivation. With each infusion, floral and fruity notes linger in the mouth and throat.
